ABOUT BLUE POTTERY

Blue Pottery is a renowned form of pottery whose origins date back to the 14th century introduced by the Mongol craftsmen. Blue Pottery made its journey from Persia (now Iran) to the Pink City- Jaipur in the early 17th century. Jaipur is prominently known for its rich culture, exquisite history, and superior craftsmanship by skilled artisans. One of the most peculiar features of this pottery is that it is made without any use of Clay. The material used in the making is a dough that is created by mixing certain ingredients like Quartz, Raw Glaze, Sodium Sulphate, and Multani Mitti (fuller’s earth) in perfect proportions. Another enticing feature is the vibrant cobalt blue dye that is used for painting the surface of this pottery. The patterns and motifs are inspired by the decorative art of Persia this pottery is low fired with the Chinese glazing technique.
